Math, Data and Computing

While Math, Data & Computing was not my primary focus at the beginning of my academic journey, this semester has illuminated its critical role in developing intelligent, adaptive, and engaging designs. My skills were significantly enhanced through the Creative Programming course, where I utilized Processing and Arduino to create interactive systems that responded to real-time inputs.

Projects such as Challenge 1 and Challenge 2 enabled me to grasp how to convert sensor data into visual feedback, employing logic, variables, and thresholds to generate smooth and intentional responses. This experience highlighted the impact of computational thinking on the emotional resonance of interactions.

Engaging with Arduino also deepened my comprehension of analog and digital signals, pulse-width modulation (PWM), and system timing. Concurrently, the Physics for Engineers course allowed me to apply this knowledge structurally, particularly in considering motion, force, and precision within physical systems.

Through my studies in Calculus, I enhanced my problem-solving abilities and pattern recognition, which bolstered my understanding of the more technical elements of coding. The Data Analytics course introduced me to the processes of reading and organizing datasets, an area I intend to further explore in user testing and design iteration.

In the fourth quarter, I will continue to build upon this foundation in Making Sense of Sensors, leveraging environmental and user data to foster more personalized and functional design outcomes, in line with my vision of creating expressive, data-responsive products.
I focused on responsive sensor-driven visuals because I believe data and logic can be used not just for function, but also for enhancing interaction and emotional feedback.
